Glen Sampson, Managing Director of Attibility Management Training and Consulting (trading as Attibility Human Capital), hails from the Western Cape, but is now resident in Gauteng.

Glen holds a diverse range of experience and skills covering technical, human resource and general management.

Professional Skills and Training

Glen matriculated in 1989 from Marist Brothers in Rondebosch, Western Cape, whereafter he joined the South African Naval Services in order to pursue a technical career in Marine Electrical studies. Having qualified and looking for more experience, he moved into Metrorail Western Cape, a division of Transnet, where he developed his technical career. His technical experience in Metrorail spanned various positions and divisions, including PLC installations, technical drafting and ultimately managing the technical library for the region.

It was at this point that he realised his passion lay in not only technical endeavours, but also in people and how they function in the workplace. He then charted a course to change his career path and within 2 years, after having completed a Diploma in Business Management, was appointed as the Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) for Metrorail Western Cape, looking after the training and development initiatives across all departments in the region.

Glen also pursued further leadership training within the organisation and one of the highlights of this period was being requested by the Foschini Group (TFG) to work as a consultant to assist in the change management initiative of launching the Exact! brand within TFG. The brand was successfully launched and thrives till today!

Endeavouring to further enhance his career, he took up an opportunity in Tshwane Metrorail as the Organisational Effectiveness Manager and was responsible for all recruitment and training for a personnel force of more than 2500 individuals, ranging from technical to senior management levels. During this tenure, he achieved a post graduate qualification in Diversity Management from Wits Business School, under the auspices of the Diversity Institute, led by Stanley Bongwe.

Further Experience

After serving 4 years with Tshwane Metrorail, Glen decided to strike out on his own and proceeded to consult and facilitate freelance training in Diversity Management to various organisations including AIG, Business Connexion, Standard Bank and Consol Glass.

Due to his technical background, in this time he also assisted MTN in launching ‘MTN Mobile Banking’ across cellular retail stores countrywide, training retail and banking staff (SBSA) about the cellular banking product. These were the first initiatives for what has become a standard in cellular banking technology within South Africa today.

In his dealings with various training companies, Glen met up with Andre Grobler in 2005 and proceeded to assist Andre in creating Ngikwazi Field Marketing. Ngikwazi was awarded the contract to establish and run the sales and field marketing operations for the new National Lottery, on behalf of Gidani in 2006.

Glen’s responsibilities included amongst others, setting up the entire HR component for Ngikwazi FM and all its staff; recruiting 100 trainers who would eventually travel the width and breadth of SA in order to successfully train some 40 000 retail staff on the new Lottery products.

Once the launch was complete and the operation settled into a maintenance phase, Glen was requested to take over the reigns as National Key Accounts Manager for the Lottery, managing relationship with corporate groups on behalf of Gidani.

Once this contract came to its conclusion for Ngikwazi some 4 years later, Glen returned to his original passion for people development and partnering again with Andre Grobler, established Attibility Management Training and Consulting in 2010.

Attibility focuses on both technical human resource management functions (recruitment, deployment, performance management, discipline, etc.) as well as training, coaching and assisting managers to manage teams better. To this end, Attibility has developed books and customised training material which it can deliver across industries to management teams.

With Glen firmly at the helm, directing daily operations as well as business development and client interface, Attibility continues to develop and thrive, while remaining true to its core values of Adaptability, Assertiveness and Accountability.
